He spoke not,
And yet he was heard,
They sort not his voice,
But understood his every word,
They felt not his touch,
But still they were moved,
He performed no miracles,
But somehow left them wooed,
With the sound of a vinyl, scratch on a turntable,
Tweak of a mixer and expression of speaker,
He dazzled them and uplifted them,
And his name on their hearts he impressed more solid, more deeper,
Like the Pie-piper of house, rhythm and rhyme,
his chain of followers cannot be broken,
Certainly his message will live through out the age of time,
For never was their ever any truer ever spoken,

Oh boy! When I started out I really started way down at the bottom like I had no equipment, no tracks to bump and no where to play. So I used whatever I could find and doing that I went through allot. My worst experience was when my brother (Jazzidiss) a good friend of mine Hlubi had to play at a girls 21st birthday party and use 1 turntable with no pitch and 1 CD player. We were so embarrassed that we tried hiding behind a table and every time we mixed our heads were under the table and the people could only see our hands come up to mix the track, LOL! That was a crazy day because the sound was crap but we regained our confidence and rocked it the best we know how. My best experience was meeting up with Frank Roger and Charles Webster at the South African Music Conference in 2006. That was a good day and I got to chat with them about the industry. It was amazing to know that we face the same difficulties all across the world in terms of educating people about our music and finding venues to express our culture.I am 26 years old and come from Klispruit West in Johannesburg. I started playing my first set at a function I hosted in my home town in 1995. Way before that I remember being at my cousins house on weekends and we would jam to sets from Club Ripingtons. I then got myself a walkman that I played all my tapes of recorded shows that I had taped from radio shows like Glen Lewis on Metro FM, DJ Fresh who at the time was at Y FM, the late Fana Gabzela (R.I.P) and many more. I also listened to my man NUTTY NTHANGENI who at the time had a show on Jozi FM 105.8 and now has a show on Metro FM on Friday’s from 10:00pm to 01:00am. He was one of my biggest influences and who really introduced me this culture an inspired me to become a DJ. He then later introduced me to the likes of Solly Vista and my main man Dave who took me in and schooled me on the decks. I remember waking up in the early morning and taking 2 to 3 taxis to Dave’s home in Meadowlands ext 5 to practice. I then went on latter to start Soundsation Entertainment with my brother Jazzidiss. We hosted a few functions and also contributed and shared or knowledge and music with the likes of B Deep, Cheezy B, Mr. Black and others. I strongly believe in sharing knowledge with others and always keep an open door. I latter branched out to explore and I joined up with Park Boyz Ent. We shared the same vision to create a platform were we can express our self and uplift our communities through our culture and music. The industry has defiantly seen some growth with the number of DJ’s now out and doing there thing. There is allot of good and bad to it but yes that is a whole different subject for another day.
Catch me every Friday night at Cappello's Walter Sisulu Square Kliptown with my man Solly Vista.

My DJ of the Month for Feb 2008.
Check my DJ of the Month for Feb 2008. This is a true legend and it is an honor for me to have him on my blog with an exclusive mix. With out further a due please check out my man...
Vinny Da Vinci!
'My sets will be an eclectic journey into the depths of House music also incorporating the sound of the now renowned Deep Soul Sessions... Keepin' it DEEP always!'
Profile
Vinny da Vinci is one of the most important figures on the South African music scene, and has helped galvanize deep club culture in his various capacities: as a partner in the inimitable House Afrika emporium and executive producer of many of their top-selling compilations (including the 'House Afrika: Deep House Sounds' and 'Africanism' series, which he has mixed); as a producer alongside DJ Christos in the groundbreaking DJs At Work and as a deejay on the leading edge of deep and jazzy underground house.
Vinny was raised in a musically-inclined family in Mabopane, Pretoria. He got a feel for compiling while preparing tapes to play at house parties and school functions - these were engineered in a cut-and-paste manner as he had no mixer. His deejaying career took a back seat after he matriculated and had to work in a clothing store to pay the rent. But he developed an even keener interest in deejaying at a club called Ship Ahoy in the late eighties. Vinny began investing in vinyl after watching a friend blend records together on a pair of Technics turntables, and his break came when the resident of another Mabopane club, Cherry's, failed to pitch and Vinny was asked to stand in. He impressed the promoters immensely, landed a residency and soon quit his day job to become a full-time DJ.
Vinny then did stints at the legendary Club Gemini, an institution that was instrumental in breaking music by the likes of Mr. Fingers and Frankie Knuckles in the townships from 1988. With DJs including the late Ian Segola, Metro's Boogie Harry and Oscar, Gemini was the Pretoria club until 1992 when it closed. Cherry's wasn't far behind and shut its doors in 1993; Vinny's entire record collection (sans a box he'd packed for a gig) was locked up in the store room after their closing weekend and later flogged at flea market by the unscrupulous owners. Many lesser talents would have thrown in the towel there and then, but Vinny persisted, borrowing records from friends until he got himself back on his feet.
He struggled on and eventually secured a residency at The Arena in Hillbrow in 1994. It was a period of radical political and musical change: kwaito emerged when house became embroiled with local ghetto-centricities, and bashes with anywhere up to 10 000 attendees became common. Vinny moved to Jo'burg and hooked up with Christos Katsaitis, who was then resident at Caesar's Palace in Braamfontein, dishing up deep house to a predominantly white crowd. Their friendship culminated with the formation of DJs At Work in 1998 - their intention: 'To change the face of music in this country.' This they've achieved with the release of two critically acclaimed, platinum-selling albums and a slew of top notch deejay mixes. Amongst Vinny's accomplishments are the aforementioned 'Africanism', 'What's Phat Pussycat: The Sweet French Hours' and DJs At Work's 'Summer Rawkus'.
Da Vinci became one of the partners in House Afrika in 1996. House music was enjoying a resurgence of interest with the arrival of Y FM, and along with his new crew, Vinny contributed to this upswing with his involvement in House Afrika's first landmark CD collection, 'Fresh House Flavas Volume 1'. He further aided proceedings with a residency at South Africa's equivalent of the Paradise Garage, Pretoria's Club Ellesse, which became both the hub and driving engine of local house culture. DJs at Work were a permanent fixture at Ellesse - a spot where 'you could get away with playing almost anything' - until its closure in 2000.
After a decade-and-a-half behind the decks, Vinny continues to specialize in his patented deep house style, continually breaking new music and educating his audience. He's deejayed with the biggest visitors to our shores, including 'Little Louie' Vega, and has played in nightclubs across the country, from Cape Town's Gyjima and Durban's Spank to Bloemfontein's Absolute and Jo'burg's Calabash, as well as venues in Port Elizabeth, Pietersburg, Lesotho and Botswana.
Vinny's skills have been recognized by international entities as well, and he's worked and wowed the crowds with Chistos at Ibiza's world famous nightspot Pacha (alongside names like David Morales, Carl Cox and DJ Gregory) a few times. Vinny's music tastes are wide, but he's renowned and revered for spinning a brand of smooth, easy and individual house that's simply fathoms deeper than the competition...
Catch Vinny at Club 676 (Zambizi Lounge) 676 Pretoria Main Road Wynberg for his famous Deep Soul Sessions 1st Saturday of the month.

ALBUM REVIEW: Robert Owens 'Night-Time Stories' out 25 February on Compost Records
This is without doubt the easiest review I have ever had the pleasure to write. Sometimes when a veteran artist releases a solo album you come away feeling majorly disappointed. Byron Stingly was probably the last great Male vocalist of the same ilk as Robert Owens but he went off the boil somewhat later in his career, largely due to his appalling choice of production staff which meant that no matter how strong a vocal performance he managed to give the music always let him down. With 'Night-Time Stories' Owens gives a flawless, professional, performance on every one of the 15 tracks and is not let down by any of the producers he has chosen to collaborate with on the album. Just look at this list of names, It's a real who's-who's of the greatest worldwide underground dance producers featuring: Jimpster, Ian Pooley, Atjazz, Charles Webster, Marc Romboy and Wahoo amongst others. The overall feel is a cross between the contemporary house sound you hear from artists from the Compost Stable such as Wahoo and Atjazz and the classic, legendary Chicago/Detroit house sound that made the genre so famous back in the eighties and nineties. Owens formed the group Fingers Inc with Larry Heard and Ron Wilson in 1985 and after a string of hits he moved to New York in 1988 teaming up with Frankie Knuckles and the Def Mix crew finally crossing over in 1991 with his universal smash hit 'Ill Be Your Friend'.I don't think there will be another hit from the album as big as the aforementioned but Owens admits himself that this project is not about pandering to the commercial music industry; "My work is about being aware of all the different facets and feelings in life. Much of it is driven by pain, but that's an emotion too. I can't stand there and be like a pop star because I need to be real - and a real person gives from their soul and wont let anyone taint that." Said Owens.Kong & He certainly is true to his word and it is with pleasure that I can reveal to you that two of my three favourite songs from the album were all produced by 'lesser known' artists and had a distinctly underground feel to them. They are 'Only Me' produced by Kid Massive, and the first single release 'Merging' produced by TJNuno Dos Santos - now there's a mouthful - you might want to think of a pseudonym boys. My other fave has to be 'Inside My World' produced by Jimpster. This is really not to be missed by the DJ's and Hardcore clubbers out there, and for the rest of you open-minded lovelies, go and get it too, you really will fall in love with this one.5/5
